When your flight arrives in Athens, you'll be picked up at the airport and brought to our hotel. You can settle in, have a snack, and rest before dinner. Over our evening meal, we will debrief about the journey ahead.
October 3
We have one precious day in Athens to visit the local sites and Museums, and we will collectively choose ahead of time which places we want to see so that tickets and plans can be arranged.
October 4
We will rise early, hop in our car, and drive to the ancient oracular site of Dodona (today called Dodoni) to visit the oldest oracular Temple in Greece.
During our homestay in Dodoni we will have plenty of time to explore the site twice (once for a historical tour, and once for personal sacred work onsite), we will eat at local restaurants or cook in our home, and we will sojourn in the beautiful village of Manteio, where our host will treat us to local raki and great advice on spots to see.
In the evenings, blessed by the quiet of our mountain sanctuary, we will explore the methods of oracle employed at this sanctuary, including sound and word.
October 4-7
The oracular priestesses of Dodona served at one of the oldest sacred sites in the Greek world, where the god Zeus was believed to speak through the rustling leaves of a sacred oak tree beside the Temple of his wife Dione. Known in some traditions as the Peleiades, or “doves,” these holy women interpreted the sounds of the wind in the branches, the movements of birds, and the ringing of bronze vessels hung around the sanctuary to deliver divine messages. Ancient writers described Dodona as a place where prophecy was awakened from the living landscape, and the priestesses served as interpreters of Zeus's voice, bridging earth and sky.
October 7
Travel Day! We will pack out of our home in Dodoni and drive to Delphi, to the navel of the world, the seat of the oracular Pythia. For the coming week, we will steep in the beauty and magic of Mount Parnassus, drink the fresh, cool Castalian Spring, and enjoy the luscious autumnal Mediterranean weather. With daily outings, time on the beach in Itea, workshops, and delicious meals at the local tavernas, we will have the opportunity to commune with the deities, spirits, and elements of the land. Our cozy lodging is one of the oldest buildings in the village.
October 8
We will begin our Delphic retreat with a hike to the Corycian Cave, where the neolithic stone altar has received offerings too numerous to count, and where the cave chambers initiate one into the mysteries of the wolves, of Zeus, of Dionysos, and the Muses with their swishing skirts. This is the cave of the Bee Maidens, who taught the art of prophecy to Apollo.
During our visit to the cave in 2025, a fox visited us, circling us and hovering near the cave opening as we sang and danced. This is a truly magical place, where unusual things are likely to happen.
After our cave time, we will refresh ourselves by drinking from the Castalian Spring and enjoy an evening of pulling cards and chatting in our comfortable sitting room together over tea or wine.
October 9
We will spend the day immersed in the Temple of Apollo and the ancient oracular site, which includes the earlier Sibyl’s rock, numerous treasury ruins, a Dionysian theatre, and a superb stadium. Each layer of the site reflects an aspect of its development, from a rustic portal that opened from the Earth to the highly-organised Temple complex it became over time.
After our wander through the site, we will enter the Archaeological Museum to study the relics and treasures found during the various digs conducted there over the years. These include marble carvings, painted vases, bronze tripods and adornments, and superbly-conserved statues, such as the Sphinx of Naxos.
October 10-12
This is our time to PLAY. We will co-create art, music, improv, and ritual based around the Delphic Maxims, methods of divination, and mythology. Our activities will include a visit to Itea, where we can dip our toes in the sunset sea, jaunts to Arachova and Galaxidi, charming local villages, and a class in Greek folk dance.
Every day, we will choose one or more themes or divination methods to explore, and then during our outings and adventures, we will observe the signs and synchronicities, weaving ourselves deeper and deeper into the eternal dialogue between the visible and unseen worlds. This will be an opportunity for us to embody the oracle in more immersive ways than ever before.
On our final day in Delphi, we will bring together all of the elements of what we have observed, studied, intuited, and learned, in a final ritual of gratitude and connection to the lineage of seeing women who came before us.
October 13
On October 13 we will return to Athens to stay at a hotel close to the airport to make things easy for October 14 departures.
October 14-22
Make it last! There is an opportunity to extend your time in Delphi if you wish. Depending on the number of participants who choose to stay on for languid days full of coffee, sisterhood, and contemplative time, the fee to add another week will be between $800-1000, and includes lodging, daily breakfast, and our shared vehicle for outings and day trips. During this week, there are no formal activities planned, but we can collaborate on some new explorations or take precious time alone to work, write, make art, and dream.
October 22
Final Departure Day from Athens. You will be taken to the airport for your journey home, or onward to your next adventure.
Awaken the inner oracle, open the eyes of the seeress.
At Dodona, where prophecy arose from the wind moving through the oak branches, the oracle reminds us that wisdom can emerge from an attentive relationship with the natural world.
At Delphi, the seat of the Pythia, the Delphic Maxims inscribed on the temple walls offered concise teachings on self-knowledge, moderation, and responsibility for one’s actions. When these sites are approached through a multidisciplinary study that includes history, philosophy, ritual practice, and contemplative reflection, the Maxims come alive. They offer practical guidance that helps today’s priestesses cultivate discernment, ethical clarity, and a quiet inner awareness through which the voice of the oracle may arise within and without.
