December 2
When your flight arrives in Cairo, you'll be picked up at the airport and brought to our hotel. You can settle in, have a snack, and rest before dinner. Over our evening meal, we will debrief about the journey ahead.
December 3
We have one precious day in Cairo to visit the Sphinx, the Pyramids at Giza, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Our must-see itinerary offers us important historical context for the journey ahead. The religious, artistic, and political traditions of Pharaonic (Kemetic) Egypt profoundly shaped both Alexander the Great and the Ptolemaic dynasty, who embraced Egyptian kingship, patronized native temples, and presented themselves as legitimate heirs to the ancient pharaohs. The Ptolemies fused Greek and Egyptian cultures, preserving and expanding Kemetic religious life while creating the uniquely Hellenistic civilization centered on Alexandria.
December 4
We will rise early, hop in our car, and drive to Alexandria, seat of the Ptolemaic Dynasty and home of Cleopatra. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BCE, it became the capital of Ptolemaic Egypt, linking the Mediterranean world with the wealth and sacred traditions of the Nile Valley. Its famous Library and Mouseion made it one of antiquity’s greatest centres of scholarship, where Greek, Egyptian, Tribal, and other intellectual traditions met. The city was also renowned for its harbour, the monumental Pharos lighthouse, and a vibrant religious culture in which Greek and Kemetic deities were often worshipped side by side.
December 5-7
During our time in Alexandria, we will explore the city's remarkable layers of history through visits to the Graeco-Roman Museum, the Roman Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, and the Royal Jewelry Museum. We will stand at the Qaitbay Fort, built on the foundations of the legendary Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. At the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, we will experience the modern revival of the city's enduring legacy as one of history's greatest centres of learning and scholarship. Together, these extraordinary sites reveal Alexandria's unique blend of Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and modern Egyptian heritage, making it one of the world's most fascinating cultural crossroads. Particularly in the Catacombs, you will see carvings that are unlike anything else in the world.
Dec 7
We will pack up and head along the coast to the seaside city of Marsa Matrouh, where we can enjoy dinner by the ocean, do our laundry, and have a restful night before we journey into the Sahara desert. Marsa Matrouh is renowned for its brilliant turquoise waters, white sand beaches, and centuries of maritime history. Once a harbour used by ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, the city remains one of Egypt's most picturesque coastal destinations, offering a peaceful gateway between the Mediterranean and the Western Desert.
December 8-14
We will drive into the Sahara Desert to the Siwa Oasis, a magical place where oracles, a salt lake, crystal blue swimming pools, and endless desert sands await us. In Siwa we will see the Oracle Temple of Amun-Ra, where Alexander the Great sought divine affirmation and where pilgrims sought esoteric wisdom for centuries. We will explore the ancient tombs of the Mountain of the Dead, watch the sunset from Dakrour Mountain, and float effortlessly in Siwa's crystal-clear salt pools. A thrilling desert safari and overnight camping adventure will take us across sweeping dunes to discover the beauty and silence of the Great Sand Sea. We will also enjoy a peaceful art retreat day, allowing the landscapes, stories, and spirit of Siwa to inspire creativity, reflection, and personal renewal.
December 15
We will return to Cairo and rest at an airport hotel, preparing for the journey onward. This travel day will offer us an opportunity to discuss and reflect upon our pilgrimage lessons and growth.
December 16
Departure day, to your home or the next adventure!
For more than two thousand years, seekers have crossed the desert to the Oracle of Amun at Siwa in search of wisdom, direction, and transformation. Here, Alexander the Great travelled for 30 days in dangerous conditions to seek divine counsel before shaping the course of history. Cleopatra inherited a kingdom steeped in the sacred traditions of this ancient land. As Herodotus recounts, the Oracle was believed to have been founded by a woman, called the “Black Dove” from Egyptian Thebes, who proclaimed that "there should henceforth be an oracle of Zeus (Ammon)" upon this holy ground.” Together, we will walk these ancient paths, opening ourselves to the profound silence of the desert and the enduring spirit of one of the world's most revered places of prophecy.
This journey is an invitation to embark on the inner pilgrimage to awaken your own intuitive gifts through direct encounter with the landscapes that have inspired mystics, queens, pilgrims, and visionaries for millennia. The living oasis, the ancient seaside catacombs, the flat-topped mountains, and the vast desert each offer their own spirit of place, inviting us into deeper presence, reflection, and communion with the sacred world. Lunch and dinner will typically occur while we are out sightseeing, and we typically take turns paying for meals so that everyone shares the costs and has the opportunity to relax.
