Jordan 2025

Desert Mothers Tour of Petra and Wadi Rum

Join Priestess Yeshe from April 4-15, 2026 in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, exploring the desert landscape, tracing the ancient incense routes, and honoring the Desert Mothers Al-lat, Al-Uzza, and Manat.

April 4
Arrive in Amman, check in to our apartment, and rest after your long flight.

April 5
Our driver will pick us up in the morning and safely bring us to Wadi Musa, right next to Petra Ancient City. There, we can wander the village, visit the Petra Museum to see the artifacts from the ancient city, sample local flavors for dinner, and relax before an early bedtime before our next two big days exploring.

April 6
Starting at 6am, we have one of the most popular Jordan guides to take us through the ancient city of Petra. Ismael is kind, knowledgeable, fun, funny, and wise. On April 6 we will tour the Treasury, visit the Bedouin caves, see the old church caves, and hike around the lower level of the Petra site, stopping for lunch, shopping, and cool drinks along the way.

April 7
Once again at 6am, before the day gets hot, we will embark on an enchanted day with Ismael. Today, we will climb the back side of Petra to the top level of the ancient site to visit the Monastery. Then, we will make our way slowly down the mountain, stopping to eat, drink, and shop with the Bedouin vendors. We will end our tour at the Temple of Winged Lions before heading back to our hotel for the night.

April 8
On our final day in Wadi Musa, we will have a “do-what-you-want” day, including access to the Petra site for any last-minute purchases or sightseeing, exploring Wadi Musa in search of shops, antiques, or fun restaurants, or relaxing at a hotel spa after our two big hiking days. In the evening, after dinner, we will attend Petra By Night, a world-renowned interactive candlelight and light show experience.

April 9
Our driver will pick us up in Wadi Musa and take us to Wadi Rum, where we will stay at the Bedouin encampment for a desert retreat. Our first night, we will go out stargazing under the vast night sky, looking for shooting stars and enjoying a bonfire with our local guides.

April 10
Wadi Rum is one of the most iconic movie locations, and its’ easy to see why. The colors of the desert range from ochre to rust, and the sand stretches for miles and miles. Camels with brightly-colored adornments walk in slow, deliberate lines, and there is a smile and a cup of tea waiting for you at every stop. We will go on a jeep tour of Wadi Rum today, seeing some of the most famous ancient and modern landmarks of the desert.

April 11-12
The deep desert is a place of reflection, rest, and peace. For two days you will have the choice of signing up for local activities, like hot air balloon rides, a camel ride, or an extended tour…or you can spend time at our Bedouin camp, lounging, pulling cards, drinking tea, reading your book, doing yoga, or meditating. Your choice! Each morning and evening we will be treated to wonderful meals cooked over fire, and often there is local music at night.

April 13

On April 13 our driver will pick us up from Wadi Rum and return us to the capital city of Amman for our last two nights of the tour. When we arrive in the city after the quiet of the desert, we can get dinner, repack, and ready ourselves for travel so that our last full day can be easy and fun.

April 14

Our final day in Jordan includes a tour of Jerash, an ancient Roman city that is considered to be the best preserved in the world outside of Italy. Once home to 20,000 people, its ruins stand as a monument to a long-lost civilization. After our tour we will have one last dinner together before heading to bed early in preparation for our flights the next day.

Discover the fertile, timeless desert of your soul.

At Petra, the great Nabataean city in southern Jordan, Al-Lat, Al-‘Uzza, and Manat held honored places as central deities within the sacred landscape. Al-Lat was venerated in temples and open-air sanctuaries as a goddess of fertility and earth, often connected with stone blocks or betyls that embodied her presence. Al-‘Uzza, the “Mighty One,” was particularly significant in Petra, where she was linked with the planet Venus and served as a fierce guardian of caravans and traders who passed through the city’s routes. Manat, eldest of the triad, represented fate and the inexorable flow of time, and her presence in Petra’s cults underscored the Nabataeans’ concern with destiny and the afterlife. Inscriptions, carved niches, and shrines across Petra attest to their worship, showing how this goddess triad shaped the spiritual life of the city that stood as a crossroads of Arabian, Hellenistic, and local traditions.
